The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV casting was originally released in 1997 as a "Special Model", it was not part of the Regular 1-120 line. It launched the new "Excellent Tomica" line, which predated the later, similar "Limited" models. The original cost of the models was 700 Yen, all Evo Models in this line were Made in Japan.

Six Varitations of the Evo IV were produced, before the mold was transferred to China. It was then used for the "Gran Turismo" and "Initial D" Gift Sets, before becoming part of the Regular line up as the 114-3 in Decmber 2000.

The models came in a special clear case, and there was a mount on which the car name was written inside. In addition, labels were attached to MI 03 to 06, which were designed to be pasted in the designated place.
