The extensive range of services provided by the city of Salzburg's fire department ranges from fire fighting to human rescue to technical operations. Technical operations include hazardous goods, storm or flood operations. The flood of the century at the beginning of June 2013 brought the professional fire brigade more than 800 deployments.
Numerous animals in need are also rescued annually by the fire department and handed over to their concerned owners or the veterinarian. And last but not least, the fire brigade has to open almost 400 apartment doors every year to save accident victims, or to allow Salzburg residents who have forgotten or lost their apartment keys to enter their apartments again.
The increasingly difficult tasks can only be mastered through constant training and further education. In addition to the missions, the daily program focuses on the care, maintenance and repair of resources, equipment and vehicles as well as schooling and training.
