Frances "Baby" Houseman is the film's main protagonist in the movie Dirty Dancing. She comes to Camp Kellerman’s with her family during the summer of 1963. Baby is from a rich family, she is nicknamed "Baby" by her family, probably because she is the youngest daughter of Dr. Jake and Marjorie Houseman and has an older sister, Lisa. Baby is planning to attend Mount Holyoke College, to study the economics of underdeveloped countries and then enter the Peace Corps. She was named after Frances Perkins, the first woman in the U.S. Cabinet. Her father is the physician of the camp's owner, Max Kellerman. During her stay, she meets Johnny Castle, the camp's dance instructor, with whom she develops a crush. She and Johnny later became dance partners and both fall in love with each other, as well.
