Balzarini was a well-known Italian sports car racing driver in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In 1959 he won the Mille Miglia together with Carlo-Maria Abate . After the end of this legendary car race in 1957 , the event was held in 1958, 1959 and 1961 as a kind of rally without any sporting value. Of the 1,453 kilometers, only 188 kilometers were driven at racing pace and only on uphill sections.

Balzarini won numerous mountain races in Italy and was in 1964 for Porsche -Werksmannschaft in the Targa Florio . With Herbert Linge as a teammate, he finished second in the overall standings behind Colin Davis and Antonio Pucci in the Porsche 904 GTS . At the Tour de France for automobiles in 1959 , he and Abate finished fifth in the overall ranking of sports cars in a Ferrari 250GT .

In 1962 he was a works driver for Abarth in the 24-hour race of Le Mans , but had to give up the race prematurely after a technical defect.
