Something Missing?

Golden Wheel Die-casting Fty., Ltd. began manufacturing diecast models during the late 1980s. Presently, they have a North American office located in Iowa City, Iowa. One early small-scaled product was a five pack "Super Sports" set made in China. Two of the five cars identify an Hot Wheels prefixed model number. In addition, it appears Golden Wheel capitalized on its namesake. Each "Super Sports" car is fitted with golden hubs in lieu of the traditional silver. In 1993 they issued "The United Racing Stock Cars". The castings were generic stock cars capitalizing on the growing popularity of NASCAR. An unusual 1990s offering was titled "Top Up". The blister was intended for a single 1:43 scale car as stated on the card. Instead, it contained three castings with "speed" type wheels closer to 1:64 scale. The card does not identify Golden Wheel although the models and package design certainly are. The "American Cruiser" series of fire, police and taxi vehicles were mixed with vintage and contemporary replicas. Semi trucks make up another line available with various corporate labels. The most interesting are the "Downtown Explorer" assortment of 3-inch vehicles made available in 2000. Examples have "real" looking wheels in contrast to their other lines. The "Pepsi Team" was available as singles and sets and based on less expensive, crude castings that are typical in play sets in various conventional colour schemes. Ja-Ru was a distributor that offered these simultaneously. A 50 Pack play set was titled "Super Wheels". This attractive set is a combination of storage trays, seven vehicles and plastic signs. The "Classic Memories" series of 1-87 scale Ford and Peterbilt trucks are marketed by the company Excite. Imex, which is involved in model railroading, also carries a classic trucks series in their line. Two recent and notable series include five vintage soda delivery trucks with "Pepsi" licensing released during 2003.All five seem to be "generic" designs but closely resemble actual vehicles. A recent series is the "American Classic" often vintage cars. These are re-issued "Valvoline" castings from the 1990s. It is speculated that the ten probably resumed production after a licensing agreement with Valvoline lapsed. Two packs are also offered.
