Imperial Toy Corporation began in 1969 and established their United States Headquarters in Los Angeles. The founder, the late Fred Kort, was a Holocaust survivor and emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. The firm is known for a variety of toy products including Kort's own patents. Imperial Toy Canada Ltd. is based in Mississauga, Ontario. Their products are distributed by Titan Toys Intl. Ltd. in the United Kingdom. Imperial established relationships with several Hong Kong manufacturers, offering a variety of miniature vehicles through the years. During the 1970s they marketed Playart "Freewheel Flyers", WT "Mighty Mini", Universal "Hiway Streakers", and Yat Ming "Action Trucks".During the 1980s, they continued by providing High Speed pullback "Hot Tire Peelers" and Yat Ming "Cruisin' Classics". Universal castings comprised of vehicles from the television show "C.H.I.P.S." and a six-pack "Emergency Team". The former noted Imperial identification on the baseplates. The latter consisted of models with Imperial or LJN identification on the baseplates. In the late 1980s, Imperial began to incorporate the "Imperial Diecast" crown logo on their packaging. Since the mid 1990s they marketed High Speed "Road Machine" and "Mighty Machines" models. The "Mighty Machines" line-up included "Hot Streakers", "Big Rig Truck", and "Mighty Classics". "Hot Streakers" are neon "Super Speed Wheelers" or themed emergency sets from the manufacturer of TC numbered toys. Playsets with plastic structures and Sohbi castings are grouped in themes. "Mighty Classics" debuted in 2000 with licensing of Ford and Chevrolet vehicles. The Imperial name with the crown logo are identified on the base-plate including a 1998 date. The actual manufacturer of these vintage Ford and Chevrolet replicas is unknown at this point. These have been available in two packs, five packs and a car transporter set. In 2003, Imperial Toy purchased the venerable Buddy L name and is presently offering toy vehicle products with this name. Included are both Summer and Mega Speed castings. Lastly, a High Speed brand big rig was recently an Albertson's supermarket exclusive. The clear plastic trailer is filled with candy.
