Jack Odell created the first Matchbox models and launched the first series Models of Yesteryear in 1956. Odell initially retired in 1973, but returned to Matchbox to help the floundering company in 1980. Two years later, however, the company was sold. Between 1982 and his final retirement in 1996, Odell launched Lledo with a line of diecast vehicles entitled Days Gone, followed by scale 1:43 diecast cars called Vanguards. Odell passed away in July 2007 at age 87.
Odell was posthumously inducted into the 1:43 Diecast Scale Model Hall of Fame in 2007.
