Jacob Marley is a fictional character featured in the Christmas novella, A Christmas Carol. In the first sentence of the book, he is revealed to be deceased, and leaves Ebenezer Scrooge both the remainder of the business they ran together, and a small fortune. Some time later, his ghost visits Scrooge in his bed chambers and warns him of his possible fate, and reveals he will be visited by three spirits of Christmas.
