Packaging observations indicate Road Champs began early as 1982 under the company JRI, Inc. both in Hong Kong and China. The JRI logo continued to be found on cards up until at least 1985 although thus far no 84 cards are known. However boxes have so far only been found with 1983 Hong Kong.
Cards were also printed in 86 and 87 without the JRI logo although the same castings were
represented many having body and interior color variations.

Color Changers packages indicate 1988 and found in two packs only. These models change body color when exposed to warm and cold conditions.
12 models are pictured on the card and have been confirmed produced include:
The #13 unlisted 57 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop has also been found in color changers.
Other packaging dated late as 1991 created for Toys R Us was sold under the Fast Lane name.
Two different five car gift packs are known. One included an early casting 1957 Chevrolet Corvette and four additional new castings all bearing the Road Champs name and 1987 date on a diecast base and having opening doors with changeable plastic hard and soft tops. The second 5 car set was all Corvettes.
In addition, the Road Champs name and JRI logo have been found on other packaging although the cars contained within the blister are actually Yatming castings as casted on the base.
At this point in time its unclear as to the actual cut off date for the JRI name was. Therefore its not entirely known exactly which castings fit into the JRI category, although its thought to be about 1987 including the 26 different castings listed above.
