The two main characters of the film, Taylor Brooks (played by Michael Biehn) and Harold Jameson (played by Matt Craven), are loosely based on Jim Wickwire and Louis Reichardt, respectively, the first two Americans to summit K-2 in 1978. Wickwire and Reichardt are acknowledged in the ending credits.
