Kassel (until 1926 officially Cassel) is a county-level city, the administrative seat of the administrative district of the same name and the district Kasse. The only major city in northern Hesse is after Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden, the third largest city and one of ten regional centers of the state of Hesse. According to the Hessian State Statistics Office Kassel had on December 31, 2017 200,735 inhabitants. The city indicates for December 2018 205,075 inhabitants.
