Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch; December 9, 1916 - February 5, 2020) was an American actor and filmmaker. Douglas received three nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for Champion (1949), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), and Lust for Life (1956), but never won. In 1996, he received an Honorary Award for "50 years as a creative and moral force in the motion picture community". In 1981, Douglas received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Jimmy Carter. Along with his numerous film and TV roles, Douglas has also written 11 books.
