LEGO Smart Play is a new "ecosystem" for LEGO sets. It is powered by the Smart Brick, which is packed with sensors and a processing chip smaller than a single LEGO stud. This new ecosystem introduces three core components: the Smart Brick, the Smart Tag, and the Smart Minifigure.
The Smart Brick can interact with the world around it through a mix of advanced sensors and localized networking. Each LEGO Smart Brick is equipped with light, sound, and color sensors, allowing it to “see” and “hear” its environment. The Smart Tag and Smart Minifigures contain embedded code that defines specific behaviors. When a Smart Minifigure is placed on or near a brick, the brick recognizes its identity and responds to its exact location.

The bricks are also able to interact with one another through a form of decentralized networking, allowing them to “talk” to one another wirelessly as long as they are in close proximity.
Smart bricks also contain a tiny speaker, and by attaching a Smart Tag to the Brick, it can trigger specific sounds or music. Smart Minifigures do not contain any speakers. They react uniquely to the environment around them. They do that through their own sounds, moods and reactions, which are played back via the built-in speaker inside the SMART Brick.
First introduced at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas on January 06, 2026. LEGO Smart Play will kick off with LEGO Star Wars sets to be released on March 01, 2026.
