Match Corp. of America, which many collectors will recognize from their Girlie issues, among others,
was originally formed out of Beacon Products Co. in 1935 and merged with Illinois Match Co. in the same
year; it later merged with Lion Match Co. in 1967. For awhile, starting c. 1965, Match Corp. sold matches
in England through Matchmakers Ltd. Although it was officially dissolved in 1977, production had already
stopped some ten years earlier (the latest dated Match Corp. cover I’ve ever seen, for example, is dated
1967).
As with a number of other classic manufacturers in the past, Match Corp. of America was centered in
Chicago, IL, and that’s where it had its match factory.
