Something Missing?

"Matchbox Series" is the official designation used for the Matchbox Miniatures range during its first years, from 1953 to 1959.

Originally the brand name "Matchbox" was only used for this range, while other diecast ranges made by the Lesney company such as the so-called "Early Lesney Toys" (which is not an actual range but just a random grouping of various toys), the Major Scale Series and the Models of Yesteryear were not associated with the Matchbox brand.

"Matchbox Series" is the official designation used for the Matchbox Miniatures range during its first years, from 1953 to 1959.

However, this changed with the introduction of Accessory Packs and Gift Sets in 1957, Major Packs in 1958 and Pop-Up Roadways and the King Size range in 1960. All those separate ranges used the Matchbox brand name as well, and a distinguishing designation for the original "Matchbox Series" had to be found.

This is why the Matchbox Miniatures range was known as the "1-75 Series" from 1960 onward.
