Meccano

Brand

Originally founded in Liverpool, England by Frank Hornby, Meccano began producing construction sets which later evolved into train sets. By the 1930's, airplane and then automobile kits were added to their catalog. This evolved into the successful brand names of Hornby and then the Dinky brand of die cast cars.  Ships were added in the late 1930s.

Line Bros Ltd. (Tri-ang Toys) bought Meccano in 1964 and changed their name to Meccano-Tri-ang in 1970.
