Lilybaeum (modern day Marsala) was a city of Sicily founded by the Carthaginians in 397 BC, a remnant of the inhabitants of Motya which had been destroyed by Dionysius being then settled there. It remained a Carthaginian stronghold until it was taken by the Romans after a ten years’ siege in 241 BC. All its coins are subsequent to this date, and of bronze.
