Magnesia ad Sipylum was a city of Lydia, situated about 65 km northeast of Smyrna (now İzmir) on the river Hermus (now Gediz) at the foot of Mount Sipylus. Its earliest coins, characterized by various monograms, seem to belong to the early 2nd century BC and most probably continued to struck coins until the era of the Roman emperor Valerian.
