c. 500 BC/BCE to unknwon date

Tyre is a city in Lebanon, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. It appears to have begun to coin silver tetradrachms and small coins in the latter half of the fifth century B.C. Although it remains uncertain, the mint at Tyre continued to mint coins even after the fall of the Roman empire as there are coins found in the area that date to 1100s.
