Norges Statsbaner - NSB / Norwegian State Railways
Norwegian State Railways was formed in 1883 as a joint enterprise for all railways that had opened since 1861. Before its establishment, the Norwegian railways were operated by various domestic and foreign companies. The state railways came to take care of everything related to railway operations: tracks, rolling stock, stations and train traffic.
In 1996, the then NSB was divided into NSB BA, NSB Gods AS (the current CargoNet) and Jernbaneverket. Jernbaneverket was given responsibility for the infrastructure, while NSB BA ran the trains, and NSB Gods handled the freight transport.
