In the 1990s, the company experienced increasing financial difficulties, caused by fraudulent activities of its main creditor, the Banque Nationale de Paris, triggering a major scandal in France. It ceased operations in 1997 and its former stores are operated by Promodès under the Proxi, 8 à Huit and Codec brands.
