Protar was an Italian manufacturer of vehicle models, established in 1963.
From the onset, they made a mark by producing the best motorcycle plastic model kits hitherto. Most of them were racing bikes in 1/9 scale, but they also made model kits of road bikes. They did a few motorcycle kits also in 1/6 scale, most notable the Moto Guzzi V7 in California and Carabinieri flavours.
They also made kits of mainly Formula 1 racing cars in 1/12 scale and a few car models in 1/24 scale.
And to top all of this, they even made model kits of famous racing bicycles.

The model kits, initially made almost entirely of plastic, gained ever more metal components later on, until they were made almost entirely of diecast metal. These diecast metal models were also offered ready made.
There were Protar models produced until the early 2000s, but it appears that the brand is now defunct.
Italeri and Revell AG of Germany kept reissuing a handful of former Protar kits over the past couple of decades, but what ever happened to Protar's vast array of tooling remains unknown.
