In the HBO special, The Pee-wee Herman Show, he worked for Captain Carl as a sort of "talking parrot" element and was referred to as "Pterri-Dactyl" in the program.
In some shots of Pterri flying, instead of being portrayed as a puppet, he is animated using stop-motion.
