Something Missing?

Rallycross legend Roland "Grus-Kalle" Brändström, who was one of the country's biggest audience favorites in Swedish motorsport and in rallycross in the 1970s and 1980s. Last season, "Grus-Kalle" won the Sweden Cup in rallycross for the second time out of three possible. (Back then SM for two-wheel drive cars). Add to that two overall victories in the previous Volvo Cup in rallycross and against all odds several final places in the fastest SM class against significantly newer and more powerful cars. In total, "Grus-Kalle" won about 40 victories in rallycross during the years 1977-1984. "Grus-Kalle" also fascinated the audience because he went his own way and his ingenious innovations in his race car meant that the regulations were given free rein and had to be rewritten from race to race. "Gravel-Cold" stubbornness has created many myths that still live today and most are true. His tall and colorful PV with a simple home-tuned Volvo B18 / B20 engine accelerated evenly with Porsches, turbocharged VW cars and performance times comparable to the four-wheel drive cars in the large SM class. Unfortunately, " Grus- Kalle passed away already in 1986 , there is also written a book about Roland Brändström "Grus-Kalle" incl. a DVD with old RC movie clips that was completed in the summer of 2014 and which can be ordered at. www.grus-kalle.se
