Roy Woods, a competitor and team owner in the Motorock Trans-Am Tour from 1969-1982, died Jan. 29 due to complications from leukemia. Woods is well known for his success as a team owner. In 1972, George Follmer, driving for Woods' American Racing Associates team in an AMC Javelin, earned the second official Trans-Am Drivers' Championship. Prior to 1971, SCCA only officially awarded a Manufacturers' Championship. Woods also fielded Trans-Am cars for Tony Adamowicz, Gary Belcher, Vic Elford, Jimmy Insolo, Milt Minter, Brian Redman, Peter Revson, and Dick Trickle.
