The Royal Bavarian State Railways (K.Bay.Sts.B.) were the state railway company of the Kingdom of Bavaria. They were founded in 1844. The company developed to the end of the First World War with a route network of 5,300 miles (including the acquired on January 1, 1909 Palatine Railways) to the second largest German country railway after the Prussian State Railways. After the end of the monarchy on November 8, 1918 accounted for in the name of the predicate Royal .

The Bavarian State Railways went on 1 April 1920 on the German Reich Railways and formed from 24 April 1920 within the same group administration Bavaria. The administration of the Bavarian route network was divided into five in 1922 so called Reichsbahn: Reichsbahndirektion Augsburg, Reichsbahndirektion München, Reichsbahndirektion Nuremberg, Reichsbahndirektion Regensburg, and Reichsbahndirektion Würzburg; latter has since been disbanded in 1930 again incorporated into the National Railroad management Nuremberg and divided their route network to the directorates in Augsburg and Nuremberg. The former Palatine railways formed the National Railroad management Ludwigshafen. The group administration established in Germany within the German Reichsbahn exclusively at the Bavarian directorates as an intermediate instance was dissolved on 1 October 1933.
