Salt Lake City is the capital and largest city of Utah. As of 2014, the estimated population of the city was 190,884, and the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area was 1,153,340. The city has a hot-summer humid continental climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters.

The city was founded in 1847 by Mormon leaders who had moved from the eastern states to practice their religion. While the city is home to the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), today less than half of the city's population are members of the church.
