The San Francisco 49ers are an American football team located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The team plays in the West Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team was founded in 1946 as a charter member of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) and joined the NFL in 1949 after the two leagues merged. In 2014, the team relocated to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, after playing at Candlestick Park in San Francisco from 1971 to 2013. The original home of the 49ers from 1946 to 1970, Kezar Stadium, is in the southeast corner of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
