Shiba Inu

The Shiba Inu is a very old Japanese breed of dog. Some claim that the Shiba has been a companion of humankind for up to 8000 years. The Shiba developed in the mountainous regions of central Japan, where it served as a guard and hunting companion. In 1937, the Shiba Inu was declared a Japanese natural monument, and nowadays, it is still one of the most popular dog breeds, next to the Akita Inu. Outside Japan, the Shiba Inu is less common, but you can also find him in Europe and the USA, where he is mainly kept as a family and show dog.
