The American edition of Smash Hits began at the end of January 1984 as a Montly release and was Published by Pilot Communications. The magazine was entitled 'Star Hits' due to another magazine having the Smash Hits title. Star Hits Magazine blended some of the content from it's parent publication but included material specific for the US market. Star Hits closed during 1989.
