The Stoewer company was founded by the Stoewer brothers, Emil and Bernhard. Headquarters were in Stettin, a town located in the region of Pomerania, which was at the time in Germany but has been a part of Poland since the end of WW II.

Founded as a factory producing sewing machines in 1858. Car production started in 1899.
