Something Missing?

The Japanese raccoon dog, also known by its Japanese name tanuki, is a species of canid endemic to Japan. It is one of two species in the genus Nyctereutes, alongside the common raccoon dog, of which it was traditionally thought to be a subspecies.

The oldest and earliest Japanese tales and legends speak not only of the possession of humans but also of shape-shifting. One of the most famous myths surrounding the Tanuki is its ability to shape-shift into the form of a beautiful woman with which it plays mischievous tricks on passersby.
