"I'm gonna pass you."Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race.

Taro Kitano is the protagonist of Mattel's animated series "Highway 35 World Race" voiced by Kevan Ohtsj.

Introduced few moments shy of Vert's entry to Tezla's Cube, Taro Kitano looks upon Vert Wheeler disparagingly. He himself is reserved, but a thrillseeker with no frills. He has his first confrontation with Vert when the former attempts to engage in small talk about his exploits of skiing down Mount Everest twice. Initially disgusted with Vert's personality and approach, Taro has a change of heart when Vert surrenders the lead to help him rescue Wave Rippers team member Lani Tam. By the end of the narrative, Taro comes to appreciate the value of teamwork and Lani's companionship.

Trivia

  • To create the character of Vert Wheeler, Starlight Runner Entertainment drew inspiration from Jeff Gomez's karate instructor.
  • There is a substantial amount of World Race visual media that depicts Taro Kitano next to the Hot Wheels Muscle Tone vehicle instead of the 70's Road Runner. It is possible that Muscle Tone was originally meant to be his car before a potential licensing deal replaced it.
