Zissou is both a parody of and homage to French diving pioneer Jacques Cousteau, to whom the film is dedicated. The film also features Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Michael Gambon, Jeff Goldblum, Anjelica Huston, and Bud Cort.
