It was the third installment of The Matrix film franchise, released six months following The Matrix Reloaded. The film was released simultaneously in 108 territories on November 5, 2003. It was the first live-action feature film to be released in both regular and IMAX theaters at the same time. Despite having a mixed reception from critics, the film grossed $427.3 million worldwide.
