The brand and its stores began expanding between 1950 and 1960, growing throughout New York.  It eventually was reduced to one store when it was bought for 1.2 million dollars in 1971.  It then opened smaller discount stores until the 1980's, when it started opening larger stores again, and then expanding into online sales in the late 1980's, which eventually took over mail-order catalogs the company had used previously.
