Belle, also known as "Beauty" in the original tale, is a fictional character first appearing in the Beauty and the Beast fairytale by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, in 1740. She is most notably present in Walt Disney Pictures' 30th animated feature film, "Beauty and the Beast" (1991), voiced by American actress and singer Paige O'Hara. The character's name is a French variation of the word "beauty."
