Sheriff Woody

Toy Story | Character

Something Missing?

Sheriff Woody Pride is a fictional character and one of the three central protagonists of Disney/Pixar's Toy Story franchise. He is the main protagonist of the first four films, and a secondary character in the two short films, Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story That Time Forgot. In the films and TV shows, he is voiced by Tom Hanks. In video games and for merchandise, Woody is prominently voiced by Tom's brother, Jim Hanks.

Woody is based on a fictitious character from a 1950s television series, Woody's Roundup. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Woody was owned by Andy Davis who also favored the cowboy doll over his other toys. In 1995, Woody begins a feud with Andy's new toy, Buzz Lightyear, which ultimately becomes a bigger issue. Eventually, the toys would become close friends in the many years to come. The following year, Woody is stolen by collector Al McWhiggin, who plans to sell him to a Tokyo toy museum. Woody is able to make his escape after rescuing Jessie from a plane bound to Tokyo, where he then recruits her and Bullseye to join him and be with Andy. Years later, Woody and his friends are accidentally donated to Sunnyside Daycare, where they make it back to an adult Andy, who in turn donates them to Bonnie Anderson. A year later, Woody reunites with his long-lost love, Bo Peep, during a road trip -- where he makes the decision to "let go" of Bonnie and move on with Bo instead, in turn becoming a lost toy.
