Corgi Toys is the name of a range of die-cast toy vehicles. The name has been retained through numerous owners since its inception in 1956.

Legal owners were:

  1. 1956 - 1983 | Mettoy Playcraft Ltd until its liquidation (during that time they were produced in Swansea)
  2. 1984 - 1989 | Corgi Toys Limited 
  3. 1989 - 1995 | Corgi Sales Ltd (owned by Mattel)
  4. 1995 -2008 | Corgi Classics Limited, moved to new premises in Leicester

In 1999 Corgi Classics Limited was taken over by Zindart, an American collectors specialists and in May 2008 by Hornby.

In 2002, The name was shorted to just Corgi.  In the same year Corgi bought the rights to the Lledo name (and many of the moulds), taking over the popular Days Gone series. The Lledo Vanguards Diecast series was also acquired in the deal. Days Gone and Vanguards Diecast models were sold by Corgi under the Lledo moniker until 2004.
