Robo Wheels

Series

Something Missing?

Born from the Hot Wheels/Bandai partnership, Robo Wheels (ロボウィール) were a short lived Hot Wheels series of tranforming robots that came out between 2002 and 2003. All 1/64 merchandise roughly followed the template of a robot contained within the car components that could utilize the base as a skateboard, with later releases even featuring color changing paint. The series had two major groups in it; the Positrons and the Negabotz. After the initial "wave 1" run of models featured in the animation, the Robo Wheels "wave 2" repaint segment introduced a new faction known as Neutroids (who took no sides in the conflict).

The narrative bore striking similarities to Hasbro's Transformers franchise. The two robot groups were said to come from a distant planet, where they were fighting for a power called Hyper Energy.  After the planet was destroyed, the two powers were thrown to Earth, where they inhabited Hot Wheels cars to become "gladiators" that could transform. Only one VHS/episode for the series has ever surfaced.
