Between the Covers Bookstore has been Telluride's locally owned and independent bookstore since 1974. Telluride locals and many visitors continue to support our family owned and operated bookstore and enjoy Bruno coffee from locally roasted Telluride Coffee Roasters.
Founding owners, Edi Wexler and husband David took over the original bookstore space in the Pekkarine building in 1974 from Jan Barnes who owned Mountain Frog, which had horse tack and a few books. Edi and David passed the torch to Stuart and Joanna Brown in 1998, who passed it to Bobbi Smith and Daiva Chesonis in 2010 and Hilary Douglass and Jon Hubbard purchased the coffee shop business separately and renamed it High Alpine Coffee. Current owners, Brad and Jennifer Ball, bought the bookstore from Bobbi and Daiva and the coffee business from Roxanne Vistocci in 2021.
All of these people and many booksellers, baristas, locals and visitors have helped create and cultivate the bookstore's Main Street charm and ongoing service to the community.
Called "Telluride's living room," the bookstore and Bruno coffee welcome thousands of locals and visitors each year with stunning views of Bear Creek Canyon and sunny sidewalk cafe seating.
