1934/35 Ford Series

Something Missing?

Tootsietoy created a fairly accurate replica of the 1934 Ford and released it in 1935 in several versions. It had a separate nickel plated grille and separate wheels with rubber tires, much like their Graham series. Also like the Graham, Tootsietoy tried to stretch their model line by painting khaki roofs on the coupe and sedan and calling them convertibles.  Unlike the Graham, Ford actually built four place phaetons during this period.  I don't think the 1934 sedans had bustles in the back as these toys do.

This version was only available for one year before it was replaced by an updated model.

In 1936, they again released the previous year's Ford but with a few differences. A roadster was added to the line-up and the "convertibles" were soon dropped. For the updated model they cast an integral grille and used one-piece white rubber #8 wheels. The hood vents were also different to reflect the new styling. The grille and headlights were originally painted silver but that practice was stopped at an undetermined point. The actual 1935 Ford Touring Sedans did have bustle backs and phaetons were still being sold.

Despite the modified casting, these cars used the same model reference numbers as their earlier counterparts.

  • coupe - 1936 through 1941
  • sedan - 1936 through 1941
  • convertible coupe - 1936 only
  • convertible sedan - 1936 only
  • wrecker - 1935 through 1941
  • roadster - 1936 through 1939
  • roadster with fireman driver - 1939 through 1941 but only in gift sets.

These toys are much smaller than Grahams at approximately 1:60 scale.
