Beth Greene

The Walking Dead | Character

Something Missing?

Beth Greene is a fictional character featured in AMC's The Walking Dead (2010-2022). Beth's character has no specified comic book counterpart, and appears to be an original character made specifically for the television adaptation. However, Beth seems to share similar story arcs with Billy Greene, Carol, Sophia, Rosita Porter, Andrea Grimes, and Julie from the comic book series. Beth is portrayed by Emily Kinney, who received praise for her performance of the character, and was nominated for "Best Supporting Actress on Television" in 2015 by the Saturn Awards. The character appeared in the second, third, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth, tenth, and eleventh seasons. Beth served as one of the central protagonists during the second-half of the fourth season, and the fifth season.

At the start of the apocalypse, Beth Greene is a sixteen-year old high school student who engaged in a relationship with Jimmy, who seemed shelter with her family on their farm. She is the daughter of Hershel and Anette Greene, and the half-sister of Shawn and Maggie Greene. Once the farm is overrun with zombies, Beth flees with Rick's group and spends the winter with them, and eventually becomes the primary "caretaker" of Judith Grimes after her birth at the prison. Once the Governor destroys the prison by force after the death of her father, Beth flees with Daryl Dixon who forms a close bond with the survivor, and begins to become a formidable survivor against both the living and the dead. Ultimately, Beth is eventually kidnapped by a group of police officers and is taken to a hospital in Atlanta, where she is forced to work under Dawn Lerner's control. Once Rick's group becomes aware of Beth's whereabouts in the city, they attempt to rescue her, and then make their way to Washington.
