Charles Edward Daniels (October 28, 1936 - July 6, 2020) was an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. His music career spanned five decades and multiple genres, including Southern rock, country rock, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel. He is best known for his 1979 song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which hit #1 on the U.S. country charts and #3 on the U.S. pop charts. Much of his output, including all but one of his eight Billboard Hot 100 charting singles, was credited to the Charlie Daniels Band. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
