Eastern was a major U.S. airline from 1926 to 1991.

Part of the BIG FOUR carriers in the USA, was created in 1930 by the Spoils Conferences. It was a composite of assorted air travel corporations.

Eastern was a major U.S. airline from 1926 to 1991.

Part of the BIG FOUR carriers in the USA, was created in 1930 by the Spoils Conferences. It was a composite of assorted air travel corporations.

Up to 1950, eastern dominated the national flights when in the late 1970s the ailine started to suffer labor disputes and high debt loads.

 

In 1982, Eastern took over Braniff Intl. airline's south American routes.

Further sold to Frank Lorenzo in 1985 and moved most of the airlines assets to his other carriers, Continetal and Texas Air.

In 1991 Eastern was liquidated and its routes were obtained by American Airlines and Delta aquired its Lockheed L1011.
