The Guide du Routard, sometimes dubbed the GDR, is a French collection of tour guides founded in April 1973 by Michel Duval and Philippe Gloaguen, in the wake of American back packers' guides. These guides, 135 in 2012, have been published since 1975 by Hachette Livre. In 40 years (1972 to 2012), about 40 million copies have been sold.
