The Hövels Hausbrauerei is a brewery in Dortmund. The house brand Hövels Original (formerly known as Hövels Bitterbier) is produced there. The company is today part of the Radeberger Group.
In 1518 the Dortmunder patrician family of Hövel acquired brewing rights on the Hövel farm on the Hohe Wall in the center of Dortmund. In 1854 Wilhelm von Hövel and Gustav Thier founded the brewery in its present form. The current recipe of Hövel's original came in 1893 for the first time on the market, and the beer is brewed according to the manufacturer until today in selbiger form. Due to lack of raw materials, production was stopped during World War II, and resumed at the same place in 1984.
