Husqvarna Motorcycles

Brand

Something Missing?

In 1987, the Husqvarna motorcycle division (not the other arms of the brand such as chainsaw production) was sold to Italian motorcycle manufacturer Cagiva and became part of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. A group of the company's managers and engineers were not willing to move to Italy and therefore founded Husaberg AB – which was acquired by KTM AG in 1995. Husqvarna motorcycles were then produced in Varese, Italy.

In July 2007, MV Agusta Motor SpA sold the Husqvarna motorcycle brand to BMW for an undisclosed amount. According to MV Agusta president Claudio Castiglioni, the sale was a strategic step to concentrate all of the company's resources in order to expand MV Agusta and Cagiva's presence in the international markets, having more financial resources for new model development.

Husqvarna was originally a military arsenal founded in 1689 to produce muskets for the Swedish Army. The company has since grown and its production has changed from weapons to sewing machines, kitchen equipment, bicycles, motorcycles, lawn mowers, chainsaws, rototillers, and construction products. The Husqvarna brand is used by the company Husqvarna, but is also licensed.
