La Collezione del Centenario Alfa Romeo

Series

Models in 1/24 Scale for the centenary of Alfa Romeo. Issued from mid 2010 to fall 2011 by Hachette for italian car magazine Quattroruote. Each issue was a fairly big package and included a Quattroruote magazine and a bound booklet about the individual model. There was also a book for each of the 10 decades, plus a repro tinplate Alfa-sign. The collection was only sold in Italy, collectors from the rest of the world will have to purchase from other sources, which often means that the extras are not included, particularly for a collection like this where the inclusion of these items would mean vast increases to both size and weight.

All models were made by Leo Models, a Modena-based company founded in 2002 as Metro Models. Following some structural changes, Metro Models were renamed Leo Models in 2010. As is always the case nowadays, the models were produced in China. All models had opening bonnets, doors and boots/trunks.

While the majority of models in the collection are new castings, a few are reissues from the original 2007 Quattroruote collection (a large series of models from various marques like Mercedes-Benz and Fiat.) Also some of the models have been reissued in the 2013-collection "Auto Vintage Deluxe Collection."

In most cases the colors differ between collections, but not always. An example is issue 4 of this series, the Giulia Sprint 1600 GTA Corsa - this model also features in the Auto Vintage Deluxe Collection (as issue #43) and both versions are a typical Alfa red. If the outer packaging is missing, which is often the case since the soft top is prone to squashing during transport, it can be difficult to distinguish between versions. In such a situation, the display base should be used to identify the model. All models in this Alfa Romeo collection have a Alfa-badge on the left side of the base, and the text "Special Centenary Edition" in gold lettering on the right.
