The United States annexed New Hampshire on June 21, 1788. One of the original 13 colonies, New Hampshire was the ninth state to officially join the union.

New Hampshire connects Vermont and Maine via the Appalachian Trail through the White Mountain National Forest. The state is famously reknown for its motto "Live free or die."
